The World Environment Day 2026 celebrations were successfully conducted in Nagapattinam District under the leadership of Thiru K.J. Praveen Kumar, I.A.S., District Collector, in the presence of Thiru D. Rameshwaran, I.F.S., Project Director (DRDA), District Environmental Engineer (DEE), Municipal Commissioner, District Education Officer (DEO), and officials from various government departments. As part of the celebrations, a mass tree plantation drive was organized at Southlogainallur, where participants also took an environmental pledge emphasizing the importance of protecting and preserving natural resources. This was followed by the distribution of saplings at the Nagapattinam Bus Stand, along with awareness campaigns highlighting the role of tree planting in mitigating heat stress and improving the local environment in Nagapattinam. A public awareness rally involving school students was organized, covering a distance of approximately 4 kilometers from the District Collectorate. The rally was formally flagged off by the District Collector and served to promote environmental consciousness among the public. In addition, visitors to the District Collectorate were presented with saplings and cloth bags as part of an initiative to encourage eco-friendly practices and strengthen environmental awareness among the general public.
