World Environment Day Celebrations – Ramanathapuram District As part of World Environment Day 2026, various environmental awareness and plantation activities were conducted across Ramanathapuram District to promote environmental conservation and sustainable living. The programme was inaugurated by the District Collector at GHSS Kottaimedu, Kamuthi. Students actively participated in tree plantation activities, the environmental pledge, awareness talks, speeches, mime performances, poetry recitation, drawing competitions, and awareness rallies highlighting the importance of protecting nature. The Wildlife Warden, Ramanathapuram Wildlife Division, inaugurated plantation activities at Sakkarakottai Bird Sanctuary, Therthangal Bird Sanctuary, and Melakeela Selvanoor Bird Sanctuary. School students and local communities actively participated in the plantation drive and awareness programmes on biodiversity and wildlife conservation. Plantation activities were also carried out in industries with the support of the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB). A total of 500 native tree saplings were planted through the various World Environment Day programmes.
